Enhancing Clinical Efficiency and Patient Safety: EKORA’s Integration with e-Observation Software at NHS Tayside.

At the core of EKORA® lies a commitment to seamless integration with third-party software solutions, fostering a comprehensive approach to healthcare data management. While EKORA® effortlessly connects with various device manufacturers through secure APIs, facilitating real-time in-clinic and remote heart monitoring, a different milestone has recently been achieved at NHS Tayside. The integration of EKORA® with the e-observation software employed at NHS Tayside has resulted in a consolidated interface, offering a holistic view of patient data, including real-time e-observation records.

In the context of NHS Tayside, where EKORA® functions as a full Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, this recent update holds significant benefits for medical practitioners. The integration empowers healthcare professionals to access up-to-date patient information through a unified interface, marking a pivotal step towards a streamlined paperless environment.

Dr Mudher Al-Khairalla, Respiratory Consultant at Perth Royal Infirmary (PRI), attests to the tangible benefits brought forth by integrating Alcidion’s Miya Observations Patientrack data into EKORA®. The adoption of e-observations at PRI, replacing traditional paper-based bedside solutions, has notably enhanced accuracy and efficiency across the facility. This transition has not only saved valuable time but has also provided medical staff with swift access to live patient vital signs – an essential component in monitoring a patient’s condition.

However, the true transformative impact lies in the amalgamation of this observational data into the EKORA® system. Dr Al-Khairalla emphasises the efficiency gains, stating, “Reviewing cases has become more efficient as we can view all patient data in a single, simple interface instead of swapping between two platforms. It also enables better prioritisation of patient care. We can now see, in real time and within the patient record, insights into the patient’s progress and their Early Warning Scores (EWS), which helps us support proactive intervention.”

Since its implementation at PRI in August 2023, the Miya Observations system, seamlessly integrated with EKORA®, has empowered healthcare staff with real-time information. This enhanced responsiveness to changes in patient status – visible at both a ward and individual patient level – ensures that immediate attention is directed towards those patients in urgent need, marking a significant stride in driving efficiency and promoting safer medical practices.
